Accessibility statement
Where Encephlo stands against the accessibility standard your institution is held to, including the problems our own audit found. Nothing here is aspirational.
Our commitment
Encephlo, Inc. wants every student and every instructor to be able to use Encephlo, whatever tools they use to get around the web. That includes people who navigate by keyboard, people who use a screen reader or magnifier, people who need larger text or more space between lines, and people who need moving text to hold still.
Our target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, the standard named in the ADA Title II web rule that public universities must meet by April 26, 2027. We are working toward WCAG 2.2 Level AA, and our conformance report already answers every 2.2 criterion, so one report covers both versions.
Today Encephlo is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Partially conformant means most of the product meets the standard and some parts do not yet. The parts that do not are listed below, with the same wording we use in the report.
We test the product ourselves, on the running application: automated checks with axe-core, keyboard testing with real key presses, inspection of what each page exposes to assistive technology, and instrumentation of the tutor's streaming reply. The findings, fixed and open, are written down in our Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR), in the VPAT 2.5Rev format that procurement offices ask for. It is a self-assessment and has not been reviewed by an independent third party.
When we fix something, the report is reissued under a new date rather than quietly edited. We are a small company. That is a reason to be specific with you, not a reason to be vague.
The conformance report

- Every control can be reached and operated with a keyboard, and the control that has focus is always visibly marked.
- A skip link is the first thing a keyboard reaches on every page, so nobody has to tab through the whole navigation to get to the content.
- The tutor's reply can be paused while it is being written, and resumed from the same place, for anyone who needs the text to hold still while they read.
- Screen readers are told when the tutor starts answering and are given the finished reply, instead of hearing nothing while the answer arrives.
- Pages reflow to a narrow phone screen without sideways scrolling, and text can be enlarged or respaced without anything being cut off.
- Read-aloud with synchronized highlighting lets a student follow a reply by ear and by eye at the same time.
- A dyslexia-friendly font option (Lexend) is offered as a preference. We make no claim that a typeface treats or fixes any condition.
Known limitations
Writing these down is the point of the page. A vendor accessibility statement with no gaps in it has not been tested. Each one carries a remediation note in the report.
We have not yet tested with a live screen reader
Our audit combined automated scanning, real keyboard testing, and inspection of what the page exposes to assistive technology. It did not include a session with NVDA, JAWS, or VoiceOver. Until it does, treat our screen reader claims as reasoned from the accessibility tree rather than heard.
Some dimmed text has not been measured on every background
We fixed every piece of low-contrast text the audit measured, including the site footer. Other dimmed secondary text uses the same styling pattern and has not yet been checked against each background it appears on. We are working through those instances.
Not every status change is announced yet
The tutor's reply is announced to screen readers. Smaller status changes elsewhere, such as upload and save confirmations in the instructor studio, have not each been verified.
Focus under sticky headers is not fully tested
On the pages we walked, the focused control stayed visible. We have not yet tested every long, scrolled page to confirm that a sticky header can never cover the element that has focus.
Level AAA is not evaluated
We report against WCAG Level A and Level AA. We have not assessed Level AAA and do not claim it.

If any part of Encephlo is hard or impossible for you to use, email suraj@encephlo.com and tell us what happened, which browser and assistive technology you were using, and what you expected. It reaches the founder directly. We aim to acknowledge within two business days, and we will tell you plainly whether and when it will be fixed.
Institutions can use the same address to request the current report in another format or to send their own accessibility questionnaire.
